Meet Fern Garber, part of my series – I Am Not Fucking Invisible!

Meet Fern Garber. Fern is a native of Minneapolis, MN but has lived in Atlanta for more than 20 years. Tired of the corporate life Fern left her corporate position and opened Preferred Pet Care a dog walking and pet sitting service for different animals. As her second career, Fern teaches English as a second language and loves to challenge her students by teaching them not only ‘survival’ English but practical and job-related idioms as well as appropriate responses to difficult circumstances. Her goal is to teach students to be better citizens, by understanding how to use the language to solve problems. For fun Fern ushers concerts and theater productions at the Fox Theater. She recently started a Meet-Up group for women over 50. The group to, date, has captured the attention of more than 150+ women for friendships, adventures and extracurricular activities. Knowing that friendships for women over 50 are hard to make, this particular meet up group is an answer to the challenge of being overlooked by younger generations and left-out by groups comprised of couples only. It is one, of many possible, answers to the “invisibility” factor. Fern has taken the initiative to walk in a world where she doesn’t have to be invisible by creating situations where she is seen and heard for who she is today, a strong, smart, talented and powerful woman who I am so very grateful to have met and photographed.
