I Am Not Fucking Invisible

I never anticipated aging gracefully, I have never done much of anything gracefully. I was born into the world butt first and have spent most of my time full throttle and often ass first so when I turned 60 and sashayed my way into 61 I never anticipated becoming the invisible woman. My Mother used to ask me not to laugh so loud, how could I ever become invisible? Yet, I have become invisible, overlooked, looked over, ignored; call it what you want but after talking with many women over the age of say 55 I have had my observations confirmed, again and again, we become invisible. Our invisibility is not limited, I have experienced it from men and women both young and old.

I thought about what could cause this phenomenon and then quickly realized I didn’t give a shit what caused it. What I cared about was the women who were experiencing it; talking to them, photographing them, hearing them and seeing them and that’s what has brought me to this personal project, a series if you will of women who are not fucking invisible. They are smart, inventive, powerful, important, loving, friends, neighbors, sisters, Mom’s, daughters, wives and a ca-billion other things that I am going to explore. Hope you join me!

Hell yes! What a powerful and meaningful project. So excited to see it unfold. (And based on experience, I think that invisibility starts even younger…)

Nelda, it has been a pleasure and an honor to part of this. I suppose it is my 15 minutes of fame. I love you and I hope to see you again. Thank you so much.
